Despite ongoing debates surrounding the automotive industry’s shift toward electrification, traditional luxury brand Bentley is taking a pivotal step—preparing to launch its first all-electric SUV. According to Mike Rocco, CEO of Bentley Americas, although specific details or images of the new vehicle have not yet been revealed, it has already received positive feedback from potential customers: as many as 80% of surveyed Bentley buyers indicated they would consider purchasing the electric SUV. Historically renowned for its large-displacement internal combustion engines and high-performance hybrid models, Bentley has never ventured into the fully electric segment—until now. With market trends evolving, the brand has decided to embrace the shift. Notably, Rocco emphasized that this new model will not be positioned merely as an “electric car,” but rather as “a Bentley that happens to be electric”—underscoring Bentley’s continued commitment to its core values of luxury, performance, and craftsmanship. The new SUV is expected to be a more compact “urban SUV,” significantly smaller than the current Bentley Bentayga, potentially comparable in size to the BMW X3 or X5. Its design language is also set to break new ground: departing from Bentley’s signature flowing elegance, the vehicle may adopt a more angular, rugged “boxy” silhouette, aligning with the current trend in luxury SUVs toward bolder, more robust styling. Bentley has not yet disclosed the official launch date, range specifications, or pricing for the vehicle. However, given that the design phase is complete and market testing has already taken place, its public debut may be imminent. Industry analysts suggest that if Bentley can meet premium customers’ expectations in terms of performance and driving range, this electric SUV could become a key sales driver for the brand and secure a strong foothold in the fiercely competitive compact luxury electric SUV segment.
