The Ford GT Mk IV has set a lap time of 6 minutes and 15.997 seconds at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife (commonly known as the "Nürburgring" or "Nordschleife"), making it the fastest naturally aspirated production car in the circuit's history. The record-breaking lap was driven by Frédéric Vervisch, a two-time winner of the Nürburgring 24-Hour endurance race (2019 and 2022). In the Nürburgring’s official historical rankings for prototype/pre-production vehicles, only two non-production race cars have posted faster times: the Porsche 919 Evo with a 5:19.546 lap in 2018, and the Volkswagen ID.R with a 6:05.336 lap in 2019. As both of these vehicles were purpose-built, non-road-legal prototypes, the Ford GT Mk IV now holds the titles of the fastest production gasoline-powered car and the fastest American-made vehicle ever to lap the Nürburgring. Unveiled in 2023, the Ford GT Mk IV is a limited-edition, hand-built track-only machine, with just 67 units produced worldwide and a price tag exceeding $1.7 million. It features a specially tuned 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing over 800 horsepower, a motorsport-grade sequential gearbox, an ASV active electronic damping suspension system developed by Multimatic, and an all-new carbon-fiber "long-tail" body design.
