In March 2026, China’s combined production of power and energy storage batteries reached 177.7 GWh, up 25.5% month-over-month (MoM) and 50.2% year-over-year (YoY). Total production for January–March amounted to 487.4 GWh, an increase of 49.3% YoY. Combined sales of power and energy storage batteries in March totaled 175.1 GWh, rising 54.7% MoM and 51.6% YoY. Of this, power battery sales reached 114.7 GWh, accounting for 65.5% of total sales, up 53.9% MoM and 31.1% YoY; energy storage battery sales totaled 60.4 GWh, representing 34.5% of total sales, up 56.2% MoM and 115.9% YoY. Cumulative sales for Q1 reached 437.1 GWh, up 52.9% YoY. Power battery sales accounted for 291.9 GWh (66.8% of the total), growing 34.3% YoY, while energy storage battery sales totaled 145.1 GWh (33.2% of the total), surging 111.8% YoY. In March, combined exports of power and energy storage batteries reached 36.1 GWh, up 51.0% MoM and 57.1% YoY, accounting for 20.6% of monthly sales. Power battery exports totaled 22.3 GWh (61.7% of total exports), up 31.9% MoM and 60.2% YoY; energy storage battery exports reached 13.8 GWh (38.3% of total exports), soaring 96.9% MoM and rising 52.4% YoY. Cumulative exports for Q1 totaled 84.1 GWh, up 36.7% YoY, representing 19.3% of cumulative sales. Power battery exports accounted for 56.8 GWh (67.6% of total exports), up 50.3% YoY; energy storage battery exports totaled 27.3 GWh (32.4% of total exports), increasing 15.0% YoY. Domestic power battery installations in March reached 56.5 GWh, up 114.9% MoM but down 0.1% YoY. Among these, ternary battery installations totaled 10.7 GWh (19.0% of total installations), up 88.1% MoM and 7.3% YoY; lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery installations reached 45.8 GWh (81.0% of total installations), up 122.3% MoM but down 1.7% YoY. Cumulative installations for Q1 totaled 124.9 GWh, down 4.1% YoY. Ternary battery installations accounted for 25.8 GWh (20.7% of the total), up 3.3% YoY; LFP battery installations totaled 99.0 GWh (79.3% of the total), down 5.9% YoY.
