In March 2026, the Tesla Model Y sold nearly 40,000 units in China’s retail market, ranking first among all passenger vehicles (including fuel-powered cars) sold in the country that month. The model saw a 47% month-over-month increase in sales, becoming the only vehicle to top overall sales across all categories. During the same period, Tesla China reported total sales of 56,000 units, with the Model Y accounting for nearly 40,000 of them. In March, Giga Shanghai delivered a total of 85,600 vehicles, including approximately 30,000 units exported overseas. For the first quarter of 2026, the factory delivered a cumulative total of 213,000 vehicles, representing nearly 60% of Tesla’s global deliveries. Consumer feedback highlighted the Model Y’s key strengths as low energy consumption, high residual value, extensive charging network coverage, transparent pricing, and relatively low maintenance costs.
