Apple is bringing its digital car key feature to new Lexus models. Relevant code has been discovered in Apple's backend systems, indicating that Lexus is being added to the list of supported brands. Lexus, a subsidiary of the Toyota Group, follows a similar pattern to Toyota itself—support for Apple's digital car key on the 2026 Toyota RAV4 was also revealed through such backend findings prior to the vehicle’s official launch. Lexus already offers its own digital key solution, but it requires continuous connectivity to Toyota’s servers to function. In contrast, Apple’s digital car key stores vehicle credentials securely in the Wallet app on an iPhone or Apple Watch and uses NFC technology to unlock and start the car. It also supports Express Mode, allowing use even when the device is locked. Additionally, the feature remains functional for up to five hours after the device’s battery is depleted. To date, Apple’s digital car key is compatible with select models from numerous automakers, including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Buick, BYD, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lynk & Co, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Zeekr.
