A woman recently purchased a brand-new 2026 Toyota Camry XSE with just four miles on the odometer and then loaded it onto a flatbed trailer to transport it back to her home. A video of the incident, posted on social media, has garnered over 300,000 views and sparked widespread discussion. The video did not specify the reason behind this decision, but commenters offered several plausible explanations. Some suggested she may have driven her old car to the dealership and, unable to drive both vehicles home, opted to have the new one towed. Others noted that certain auto insurance policies don’t take effect immediately upon purchase, making it safer to rely on roadside assistance services—such as AAA—that often include free towing. Another theory was that the car might be a gift, and keeping the mileage extremely low would help preserve the surprise. Some users pointed out that dealerships themselves frequently offer flatbed delivery services, especially for customers who live far away or are purchasing across state lines. The discussion also reignited the common belief that a vehicle loses significant value the moment it leaves the showroom. Data shows that new cars typically depreciate by about 10% in the first month and roughly 20% within the first year. However, the Toyota Camry holds its value better than most midsize sedans, depreciating only about 36% over five years—below the segment average. While some joked that the move was an attempt to avoid depreciation, others countered that the difference between four miles and, say, 20-plus miles has negligible impact on actual resale value. Many simply expressed respect for personal choice, noting that the action harmed no one and didn’t warrant overinterpretation.
