Samsung SDI has signed a multi-year battery supply agreement with Mercedes-Benz to provide high-performance traction batteries for the latter’s next-generation electric vehicles. This marks Samsung SDI’s first entry into Mercedes-Benz’s battery supply chain. Under the agreement, Samsung SDI will supply high-nickel NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) batteries, which offer advantages in energy density, driving range, lifespan, and power output, and incorporate Samsung SDI’s proprietary safety solutions. These batteries will be used in Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming compact and midsize electric SUVs and coupes. Beyond battery supply, both companies also plan to jointly develop next-generation battery technologies and expand their collaboration in the mobility sector. Samsung SDI stated that this partnership will help solidify its competitive position in the global electric vehicle market.
