Ford had planned to launch a three-row electric SUV in 2025, but canceled the project nearly two years ago due to weaker-than-expected demand for electric vehicles. The vehicle was first previewed externally in May 2023, with then-CEO Jim Farley dubbing it a “personal bullet train” and claiming it would offer over 350 miles of range. However, Ford never released further details before terminating the project. Although never officially launched, the vehicle hasn’t entirely vanished. Doug Field, Ford’s former head of electric vehicles, has long used a side profile image of the SUV as the cover photo on his LinkedIn page. The image shows a front end resembling the Genesis GV60, an elongated, sloping roofline, and a short rear end reminiscent of the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. According to a Ford spokesperson, the vehicle currently serves as a “research vehicle” to inform the development of next-generation EVs. By late 2025, Ford shifted its strategy, planning to offer hybrid versions of nearly all its models within this decade and reconfiguring the next-generation F-150 Lightning as a range-extended electric truck equipped with an onboard generator. Ford hasn’t abandoned battery-electric vehicles entirely. Instead, it is pivoting toward developing a scalable EV architecture, which will first underpin a midsize electric pickup truck slated for a 2027 launch. This platform is designed to accommodate multiple body styles and may eventually reflect technological and design influences from the canceled three-row SUV.
