On April 16, Volkswagen and its energy brand Elli announced plans to launch a fully integrated vehicle-to-grid (V2G) product package for residential customers in Germany in the fourth quarter of 2026. Customers using this service could earn between €700 and €900 annually under optimal conditions. Since 2023, all Volkswagen models based on the MEB platform have supported V2G functionality, and approximately one million such vehicles in the European market are already technically ready for grid integration. With the upcoming release of ID. Software 6, V2G support will be extended to additional battery configurations. Volkswagen stated that its high-voltage batteries and accompanying protection systems are robustly designed, ensuring that bidirectional V2G charging will not significantly impact battery lifespan.
