BMW Group has recently unveiled its sixth-generation eDrive electric drive system, which will be deployed in its upcoming Neue Klasse models. The new system integrates an 800V high-voltage architecture across the entire vehicle, large-format cylindrical cells, and highly efficient electric motors, delivering a CLTC-rated range exceeding 900 kilometers. Specifically, the Neue Klasse BMW iX350 xDrive is equipped with a 108.7 kWh battery pack, achieving a WLTP range of 805 km and surpassing 900 km under CLTC conditions, with an official energy consumption of 15.1 kWh per 100 km. In terms of electric drive technology, the system combines a front asynchronous motor (ASM) with a rear electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM), enabling a rare-earth-free drive architecture. It also incorporates advanced technologies such as hairpin winding, a composite cooling system, and silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor inverters to enhance the performance and reliability of the electric drive unit. The vehicle features BMW’s Intelligent Energy Management system, enabling dynamic, vehicle-level energy management to reduce energy losses and costs. It also supports over-the-air (OTA) updates for continuous performance optimization and ensures the safety of the high-voltage system. Designed for scalability, the eDrive system supports multiple drivetrain configurations, delivers high output power suitable for diverse driving scenarios, and includes an efficient thermal management system capable of handling extreme environmental conditions.
