CATL unveiled its third-generation Qilin battery at the 2026 Super Tech Day event. The battery delivers ultra-fast charging capability equivalent to 10C with a peak rate of 15C, achieving a volumetric energy density of 600 Wh/L and a gravimetric energy density of 280 Wh/kg. A 125 kWh battery pack using this technology weighs 625 kg—255 kg lighter than an equivalent lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Vehicles equipped with the new battery see their 0–100 km/h acceleration time reduced by 0.6 seconds, the risk window during overtaking maneuvers shortened by 12%, and麋鹿 test speeds improved by 8%. Body roll angle is reduced by 6.5%, emergency evasive capability enhanced by 15% to 25%, and braking distance over 100 km shortened by 1.44 meters. The battery’s weight reduction also extends the lifespan of key chassis components by 40% and tire life by 30%, while freeing up interior space—the battery’s volume is reduced by 112 liters (equivalent to three standard 20-inch suitcases), increasing passenger headroom by 18 mm. The third-generation Qilin battery supports 10C-equivalent charging and delivers a peak discharge power of 3,000 kW. It features a thermally and electrically separated design, decoupling thermal management from current conduction pathways. Also unveiled at the same event was the Qilin Condensed Battery, which achieves a gravimetric energy density of 350 Wh/kg and a volumetric energy density of 760 Wh/L, with a total pack weight under 650 kg. When installed in an executive sedan, it enables a range of up to 1,500 km; in a full-size large SUV, it delivers a range of 1,000 km.
