The all-new BMW i3 Long Wheelbase made its global debut in China on April 22. Specifically tailored for the Chinese market, this model is developed on BMW’s Neue Klasse (New Class) dedicated electric vehicle platform and is scheduled to enter production and launch in the fourth quarter of 2024 by BMW Brilliance Automotive. Exterior-wise, the new i3 retains BMW’s iconic kidney grille design, reimagined as a closed-loop illuminated grille. It also carries forward the signature “angel eye” headlights and Hofmeister kink. The front fascia features the brand’s longest-ever integrated light cluster, housing 322 LED units. The body adopts a short front overhang and long wheelbase layout, with the wheelbase extended by 108 mm—bringing the total length beyond three meters—all dedicated to enhancing rear passenger space. A fastback roofline and wide fenders accentuate its sporty character, while nine exterior paint options are available, including Marina Bay Blue and Frozen Space Silver for personalized styling. At the rear, the design is clean and minimalist. Horizontal “L”-shaped light strips extend outward from the BMW logo, seamlessly blending into the body lines and delivering sharp illumination when lit—echoing the “7”-shaped daytime running lights at the front. Inside, the cabin is driver-focused and features a white-and-gray two-tone color scheme. It is equipped with a 17.9-inch borderless central touchscreen, a 43.3-inch Panoramic Vision display aligned with the driver’s line of sight, a 3D head-up display, and a bespoke multifunction steering wheel. Additional highlights include a three-zone automatic climate control system, power-adjustable multifunction seats, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. Under the hood, the i3 50 xDrive variant is powered by BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive electric drive system, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup: an EESM motor on the rear axle and an ASM motor on the front axle. The system delivers a maximum output of 345 kW (469 hp) and peak torque of 645 N·m. With a 108 kWh battery pack, the vehicle achieves a CLTC-rated range exceeding 1,000 kilometers. It supports an 800V high-voltage architecture and 400 kW ultra-fast charging technology, enabling approximately 400 km of range to be replenished in just 10 minutes.
