China’s EV Charging Infrastructure Reaches 21.48 Million Units by End-March 2026

As of the end of March 2026, China had a total of 21.481 million electric vehicle (EV) charging points nationwide, an increase of 46.9% year-on-year. Of these, public charging points numbered 4.863 million, up 28.1% year-on-year, with a combined rated power capacity of 234 million kilowatts and an average power output of approximately 48.06 kilowatts per charger. Private charging points totaled 16.618 million, surging 53.5% year-on-year, with an installed electricity capacity of 147 million kVA. China has now built the world’s largest EV charging network, capable of supporting the charging needs of over 40 million new energy vehicles. Under the National Energy Administration’s “Three-Year Doubling” initiative to enhance EV charging infrastructure capacity, the country aims to reach a total of 28 million charging points by the end of 2027, driving investments exceeding RMB 200 billion.
