Changan Automobile announced during the 2026 Beijing Auto Show that it aims to achieve annual vehicle sales of 5 million units by 2030 and rank among the world’s top ten automakers. The company’s chairman stated that reaching 5 million units is the “survival threshold” for entering the global top ten. In 2025, Changan sold 2.913 million vehicles globally; to meet its 2030 target, it must sustain a compound annual growth rate exceeding 11% over the next five years. To enhance efficiency, Changan will drive comprehensive strategic synergy between its Avatr and Deepal brands—maintaining independent front-end operations such as market positioning while deeply integrating mid- and back-end functions like R&D and manufacturing. This includes cost-sharing in development and centralized component procurement—areas largely imperceptible to consumers. Previously, both brands suffered blurred positioning and overlapping price ranges due to intense price competition and market pressures. Although both utilize Huawei’s intelligent driving systems, their distinct brand propositions led to unmet sales targets and losses in 2024. Changan plans to build a premium and mid-to-high-end brand cluster capable of selling over 1.5 million vehicles annually and increase its overseas sales share to 35%–40%. Its overseas sales reached 637,000 units in 2025, with a 2030 target of 1.5 to 1.8 million units. The company currently operates 22 manufacturing bases and five overseas R&D centers globally and will invest hundreds of billions of yuan over the next five years to advance its “1+N” global expansion strategy. Achieving the leap from 3 million to 5 million units requires systemic transformation centered on efficiency—eliminating redundant internal brand investments and better integrating overseas markets into global platforms. However, mid- and back-end integration entails complex realignments of interests and process overhauls, and whether these efforts can effectively translate into tangible efficiency gains remains to be seen.
