During the Beijing Auto Show in late April 2024, Hassane El-Khoury, CEO of U.S. semiconductor company onsemi, stated that China is not only a consumer market and manufacturing hub but also an innovation center. He emphasized that despite challenges such as geopolitical tensions, supply chain restructuring, and the pandemic, the company has adhered to two key decisions: not withdrawing from the Chinese market and continuously providing its Chinese customers with the most advanced technologies. El-Khoury noted that over the past few years, onsemi’s approach to China has differed from that of many other companies, which often view China merely as a consumption or manufacturing node. In contrast, onsemi has placed strong emphasis on China’s innovation potential. The company’s manufacturing facilities in China enable it to serve local customers more efficiently and maintain long-term partnerships. As one of the leading suppliers of silicon carbide chips for China’s new energy vehicles (NEVs), onsemi has reinforced its position within China’s NEV supply chain through continuous investment in cutting-edge technologies and expressed confidence in the long-term growth of the Chinese market.
