On April 29, Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli announced it had signed an agreement with Swedish company Univrses to acquire a 30% stake in the firm and secure an option to increase its ownership to a controlling majority in the future. The collaboration aims to integrate Univrses’ 3D artificial intelligence computer vision technology into Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre system. This system collects data via sensors embedded in the tires and enables real-time communication with vehicle electronics and the cloud. By incorporating Univrses’ technology, the system will provide autonomous vehicles with capabilities in 3D localization, mapping, and spatial deep learning, while also delivering real-time road infrastructure monitoring data to traffic management authorities to support optimized resource allocation and potentially reduce traffic accident rates. The combined technologies are already being deployed in a road network monitoring project launched in Italy’s Apulia region in 2025. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
