From April 29 to May 3, 2024, Tesla set up an autonomous driving pop-up experience zone at Lummus Park on Miami Beach, located within the official fan festival of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. At the heart of the exhibit was a Cybertruck towing a Cybercab autonomous taxi, both displayed inside a glass enclosure emblazoned with the slogan “The Future Is Autonomous,” touring the waterfront area. Miami has been identified by Tesla as one of seven target cities for the expansion of its autonomous taxi service in the first half of 2026. This showcase represents a strategic marketing initiative aimed at this market. Previously, during Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2023, Tesla hosted a “Visualizing the Autonomous Future” event at its Design District showroom, unveiling a Cybercab prototype and featuring interactions between visitors and its humanoid robot, Optimus. Two weeks prior to the Miami activation, from April 19 to 20, Tesla deployed Optimus robots at its Boylston Street showroom in Boston, adjacent to the finish line of the Boston Marathon, drawing large crowds of runners and spectators for free experiences. Tesla has confirmed it will launch its autonomous taxi service in Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Las Vegas in the first half of 2026. Austin is already operating autonomous taxis without safety drivers and serves as the foundation for further expansion. CEO Elon Musk stated that by the end of 2024, the autonomous taxi service is expected to cover between one-quarter and one-half of the United States. On the production front, Musk revealed that the Cybercab production line could eventually reach an annual capacity of 5 million units, with a target output of one vehicle every 10 seconds. Under his compensation incentive plan, two key performance metrics over the next decade are deploying 10 million autonomous taxis into operation and achieving annual sales of 20 million passenger vehicles. Musk noted that the Cybercab’s price will be under $30,000, with an average operating cost of approximately $0.20 per mile, though actual pricing and costs post-mass production remain to be validated.
