During the May Day holiday, traffic volume on national expressways surged significantly. In Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, local authorities deployed 12 mobile charging units at service areas and tourist attractions to alleviate charging pressure for new energy vehicles (NEVs). These units can swiftly reach designated parking spots upon receiving instructions and deliver a charge sufficient to replenish approximately 80% of a vehicle’s battery in about 30 minutes. Local power authorities utilized an intelligent dispatch system integrated with travel data analytics to precisely coordinate the deployment of these mobile chargers. Data shows that traffic along the Hangzhou Bay Bridge increased by over 10% year-on-year during the holiday, while overall energy-refueling service efficiency in the relevant areas improved by more than 20%. According to statistics from the National Energy Administration, on May 1 alone, NEVs on China’s expressways consumed 23,033,900 kilowatt-hours of electricity—up 55.6% year-on-year—and received over 946,300 charging services, marking a record high for the first day of the May Day holiday.
