Volkswagen Sachsen recently dismissed rumors that BYD intends to produce electric vehicles at Volkswagen's "Transparent Factory" in Dresden. Since its opening in 2002, the factory—renowned for its transparent architectural design—has become a local landmark and an industrial tourism attraction, as well as a key production site for Volkswagen in Saxony. Vehicle production at the facility ceased in mid-December 2025, with the ID.3 being the last model rolled off the assembly line. Currently, parts of the site are being transformed into a science and innovation platform in collaboration with TU Dresden (Dresden University of Technology).
