Nissan Motor plans to cut approximately 10% of its workforce in Europe—around 900 employees—primarily affecting office positions in the UK, France, and Spain. The company currently employs about 9,300 people across Europe. Meanwhile, its Sunderland plant in the UK will consolidate its two existing production lines into one to reduce capacity. The plant is currently operating at roughly 50% utilization, and Nissan is in discussions with Chery Automobile regarding potential joint use of the facility. Additionally, Nissan is considering closing part of its warehouse operations in Barcelona, Spain, and implementing structural adjustments to its Nordic market business. The company has already begun consultations with employees on these measures. This follows Nissan’s previously announced global restructuring plan, which includes cutting 20,000 jobs and closing seven plants worldwide to address losses over two consecutive fiscal years: a net loss of JPY 670.8 billion in FY2024 and an expected net loss of JPY 550 billion in FY2025.
