BMW plans to launch both an all-electric version and the next-generation combustion-engine M3 simultaneously in 2027. The two models will coexist as “twin models” with similar price ranges. The all-electric M3 will be built on BMW’s new Neue Klasse electric architecture, featuring four individual motors for independent wheel drive and delivering a peak output of nearly 746 kW. It has already entered an intensive road-testing phase. Meanwhile, the combustion-engine M3 will continue using the current 3 Series’ CLAR platform but adopt the Neue Klasse design language for its exterior styling. Sylvia Neuhauser, Head of BMW M Sales, stated that the all-electric M3 will remain faithful to the BMW M DNA, emphasizing driving dynamics, handling precision, and the trust-based relationship between driver and vehicle. To encourage adoption, BMW will organize test-drive tour events, allowing existing M owners to experience the electric M3 firsthand. She acknowledged that not all enthusiasts of internal combustion engines can be convinced to switch to electric vehicles but expressed confidence that some drivers would change their minds after trying it out. Neuhauser also noted that BMW has the flexibility to adjust production capacity according to market demand, enabling dynamic allocation between the two models. Although they differ in certain functionalities and design details, both versions will share a consistent overall aesthetic and target the same audience: high-performance car enthusiasts. BMW M will not deliberately differentiate between users of the two powertrains and stresses that, regardless of the drivetrain used, the core M3 driving experience must remain authentic and reliable.
