In the early stages of electric vehicle (EV) development, intelligence emerged as a key feature distinguishing EVs from internal combustion engine vehicles. The Tesla Model S pioneered the use of a large central touchscreen to replace traditional physical buttons, driving the evolution of automotive cockpits from electronic to intelligent systems. Since then, although the industry has continued heavy investment, no mature product with truly groundbreaking impact—akin to the iPhone—has yet emerged. Progress in vehicle intelligence has largely focused on increasing the number of screens, refining basic infotainment functions, and advancing autonomous driving technologies still in their early stages. Recently, however, the widespread integration of large AI models into vehicle systems has significantly intensified competition in automotive intelligence.
