On May 7, Poland’s state-owned electric mobility company announced it would partner with Foxconn to build an electric vehicle (EV) production and R&D center in southern Poland. The two parties are currently negotiating the details of their collaboration, planning to establish a joint venture and aiming to sign a binding agreement in the second half of 2026, with the overall cooperation framework targeted for finalization in the second half of 2024. The project aims to develop a locally rooted EV brand targeting the European market, initially launching three vehicle models and establishing comprehensive capabilities in vehicle design, manufacturing, and technology within Poland. The production facility will be located in Jaworzno, a city in southern Poland, and will include body and paint shops, as well as operations for battery and electric drive assembly and final vehicle integration. A new R&D center will also be built locally, focusing on software, data analytics, and digital mobility solutions. The Polish electric mobility company stated that key factors behind selecting Foxconn include its industrial scale, technological expertise, commitment to technology transfer, support for building local vehicle design capabilities, and the potential to engage Polish suppliers. The project is also expected to catalyze complementary investments in the broader electric mobility ecosystem and battery industry. Established in 2016 by four Polish state-controlled utility companies, the electric mobility company was originally created to advance domestic EV industry development but has previously faced multiple delays and strategic shifts. This partnership is seen as a pivotal step marking a new phase in the initiative.
