BYD’s first plug-in hybrid model specifically developed for the European market—the Dolphin PHEV (internal codename "Dolphin G")—will officially launch in Europe in June. Positioned as a B-segment plug-in hybrid hatchback, the vehicle measures approximately 4.3 meters in length and 1.8 meters in width and shares core technologies with the Atto 2 DM-i. Its powertrain combines a 1.5L four-cylinder engine with a front-mounted electric motor, supporting both series and parallel hybrid modes. The Dolphin PHEV offers an all-electric range exceeding 100 km and a combined driving range of over 1,000 km. By comparison, the Atto 2 DM-i delivers a combined output of 193 kW, achieves a combined fuel consumption of approximately 1.8 L/100 km, and has an all-electric range of around 90 km. The Dolphin PHEV will target Europe’s mainstream compact car segment, competing directly against models such as the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio. Currently, BYD continues to expand its market share in key European markets and is in discussions with the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) regarding membership, aiming to gain greater influence in the European market amid rising import tariffs on electric vehicles.
