On May 7, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the 2026 Tesla Model Y has become the first vehicle to pass its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) safety tests. The Model Y successfully passed four specific evaluations—lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, blind-spot intervention, and pedestrian automatic emergency braking—and received official certification. Additionally, the 2026 Model Y had previously earned a five-star safety rating in NHTSA’s frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests. The agency stated that these tests aim to encourage automakers to prioritize the development of innovative technologies that enhance road safety for families and help consumers choose safer vehicles.
