On May 8, zero-gravity seats became a focal point in the automotive industry. Designed to enhance comfort by mimicking the relaxed posture experienced in space environments, these seats have been adopted as a core feature in new vehicles by numerous automakers, attracting quality-conscious consumers. Data shows that the number of vehicle models equipped with zero-gravity seats in China has surged from 32 in 2022 to 117 in 2024—an increase of nearly 2.7 times. The price range for such vehicles has dropped from above RMB 300,000 to below RMB 200,000, and market penetration has exceeded 5%. Meanwhile, safety concerns have emerged. The complex folding mechanisms of zero-gravity seats pose a risk of accidental injury to children, and their distinctive reclined seating position may lead to more severe injuries in extreme collision scenarios. Industry experts note that injury metrics associated with these seats rise significantly during crashes, with severe and critical trauma accounting for over 70% of cases—primarily affecting the sternum and lumbar spine. Current development priorities emphasize comfort and intelligent cabin experiences, often overlooking safety performance. Conventional seat belts and airbags struggle to provide effective protection in this reclined posture.
