During its Q1 2026 online earnings call, MediaTek disclosed that revenue from its Smart Edge Platform rose 23% quarter-over-quarter and 13% year-over-year, accounting for 46% of total revenue—a notable increase in its revenue share. The company confirmed that its first AI accelerator ASIC project remains on track to enter mass production as scheduled, with expected revenue of approximately $2 billion in 2026 and potential to reach several billion dollars in 2027. In foundational data center technologies, MediaTek has invested in Ayar Labs, a developer of co-packaged optics (CPO) optical engines, and is collaborating with Microsoft Research to develop next-generation active optical cables using MicroLED light sources. MediaTek has established a comprehensive AI computing ecosystem spanning from edge devices to the cloud: on smartphones, it is advancing on-device AI through its flagship Dimensity 9500 chip; in IoT and edge computing, it offers the Genio series of chip platforms covering all scenarios; in automotive electronics, it is upgrading intelligent cockpits under the "AI-defined vehicle" concept; and it is now entering the cloud data center market via AI accelerators.
