On May 10, Li Bin, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, launched a 24-hour live stream while driving himself to inspect the newly completed battery-swap corridor along the Hexi Corridor. Departing from Zhangye at 6 a.m. that day, he traveled entirely via battery swaps and arrived in Dunhuang, verifying the corridor’s battery-swap service capabilities. That evening, his team stayed overnight in the ONVO L80 dual-cabin camper van, enjoying the desert night sky. The NIO Hexi Corridor Battery Swap Route officially opened on the same day, stretching 1,739 kilometers from Xi’an in the east to Dunhuang in the west, with 20 battery swap stations strategically positioned along the route. This enables seamless battery-swap travel for both NIO and ONVO users all the way to Dunhuang. Following this completion, the broader Silk Road Battery Swap Network is scheduled to achieve full connectivity in the second half of 2024, allowing users to start from any NIO battery swap station nationwide and reach every provincial-level administrative region in mainland China using only battery swaps.
