The first model under Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s FREELANDER brand, the "Freelander 8," has appeared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) vehicle registration documents. Positioned as a luxury tech-oriented all-terrain SUV, the Freelander 8 is expected to be officially unveiled in the second half of this year. The Freelander 8 features a boxy silhouette that continues the brand’s rugged design language, emphasizing spaciousness and flagship presence. Exterior highlights include yacht-inspired character lines, a wide tailgate, prominent “FREELANDER” badging, and roof-mounted rails. The vehicle also introduces a third-row-exclusive “Sky Corridor” with a panoramic glass roof to enhance cabin openness. At the front, the vehicle integrates LiDAR sensors. All variants will come standard with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS V4.1 intelligent driving system, enabling advanced autonomous driving capabilities through the strategic partnership between the two companies. In terms of dimensions, the Freelander 8 measures 5,118 mm in length (5,185 mm for certain variants), 2,050 mm in width, and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. It debuts on the new iMax platform architecture, supporting three powertrain options: battery-electric (BEV), range-extended electric (REEV), and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The China-market launch models will feature an 800V high-voltage extended-range platform as standard. Additionally, the Freelander 8 is co-developed in deep collaboration with CATL and Qualcomm Snapdragon. It will be among the world’s first vehicles equipped with the Snapdragon 8397 chip and will feature a terrain-specific “Xiaoyao Extended Hybrid Battery,” jointly developed with CATL, capable of peak charging rates up to 350 kW.
