BMW Unveils First Alpina Concept Car Since Full Acquisition on May 15

Following BMW's full acquisition of Alpina, the Vision BMW Alpina concept car will make its global debut on May 15 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Featuring a low-slung, elongated fastback coupe silhouette with a noticeably tapered rear end, the vehicle leans stylistically toward a luxurious grand tourer. It remains unclear whether it will adopt a two-door or four-door configuration. Teaser images reveal a design language distinctly different from current BMW models, with certain details reminiscent of the previous-generation 8 Series Gran Coupe—though its lighting units are entirely unique. Positioned as a high-end, niche offering, this concept marks a strategic shift for Alpina: moving beyond merely upgrading existing BMW models toward a more independent and bespoke approach. According to insiders, future Alpina products will emphasize comfort, refinement, opulence, and personalization rather than extreme performance, clearly differentiating themselves from BMW’s M lineup. A BMW Group R&D executive previously stated that Alpina will focus on “speed, comfort, and luxury,” continuing its historic tradition of crafting high-speed, long-distance touring vehicles. Additionally, reports suggest that Alex Innes, former designer from Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild division, may have contributed to the project. Given the inclusion of “Vision” in its name, the car serves as a concept showcasing Alpina’s future direction and is not slated for immediate production.
