German professional truck driver Tobias Wagner plans to embark on a global journey in autumn 2024, driving a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 all-electric semi-truck in an expedition dubbed "80 Charges Around the World." Co-initiated by Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Wagner, the project will cover approximately 40,000 kilometers over roughly nine months, traversing more than 38 countries with only around 80 charging stops. The endeavor pays homage to Jules Verne’s classic novel *Around the World in Eighty Days* and aims to demonstrate the real-world feasibility of electric heavy-duty trucks for long-haul transportation. The eActros 600 used for this challenge has been specially modified with additional front headlights, a spare tire carrier, a spare wheel, and an integrated mobile charging unit to cope with challenging road conditions and limited charging infrastructure. A "motorhome-style" living module, installed at the rear by BlissMobil, provides essential living space during off-road segments of the trip. The vehicle is equipped with a battery pack exceeding 600 kWh and supports megawatt-level ultra-fast charging, delivering a designed range of approximately 500 kilometers under full load. Wagner will begin his global adventure from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, Germany.
