During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chinese research teams have undertaken a national initiative to address critical challenges in high-volume automotive powertrain manufacturing—such as inconsistent product quality and reliance on imported standards for intelligent production line design and manufacturing—by developing integrated technologies for reliability and quality of domestically produced high-end CNC machine tools used in intelligent production lines. The research has achieved breakthroughs in key technologies, including adaptive dynamic mapping of machine tool accuracy and quality parameters under complex operating conditions, and modeling of multi-process manufacturing error propagation. It has also revealed the coupling mechanism between production line reliability degradation and product precision retention. The team established an “edge–device–cloud” collaborative equipment fault diagnosis framework and a digital twin system integrating virtual and physical domains. They developed a dynamic production operation coordination and optimization platform capable of supporting quality control, reliability assessment, and intelligent maintenance, thereby enabling autonomous, real-time monitoring and maintenance decision-making for intelligent production lines. These achievements have been scaled up for application in both new energy vehicle and internal combustion engine vehicle powertrain production lines. Field tests demonstrate an average Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) exceeding 2,500 hours and an Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) surpassing 85%.
