Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility, JAC Motors, and Stellantis Group—along with its Maserati brand—are currently in talks to jointly develop new energy vehicles (NEVs) under the Maserati name. The collaboration will follow the model of Huawei’s “Five Jie” (Five Realms) projects: Huawei will lead product definition and supply core technologies, JAC will handle co-development and manufacturing, and Maserati will be responsible for styling design and provide brand licensing. The resulting vehicle will be launched in two versions: a domestic version under the Zunjie brand and an overseas version bearing the Maserati badge. The first model is currently in the styling design phase and is scheduled for mass production in the second half of next year. Discussions on this partnership began as early as early 2023. Although a formal agreement has not yet been signed, development work is already underway. Maserati unveiled its “Folgore Strategy” in 2020, aiming for a fully electric lineup by 2025 and complete electrification by 2030. However, its current all-electric models are selling only in the double digits annually in several key European markets and are struggling in China, where their intelligent driving and cabin experiences lag behind those of domestically produced NEVs priced around RMB 300,000. For Stellantis, partnering with China’s NEV supply chain has become a pragmatic choice; for Huawei and JAC, Maserati’s design resources and global brand prestige offer a strategic pathway for Zunjie to enter the European luxury car market.
