Recently, car owners in multiple regions have reported difficulties parking in underground garages and shopping mall parking lots, with new energy vehicles (NEVs) facing particular challenges due to their generally larger dimensions, which struggle to fit within existing parking spaces. To alleviate range anxiety, NEVs are often equipped with large-capacity battery packs, increasing both vehicle length and width. Additionally, growing consumer preference for spacious models has prompted automakers to launch even larger vehicles. However, China’s current parking space dimension standards have not been updated for years and no longer align with the actual sizes of today’s vehicles. Some developers, aiming to control costs, have reduced parking space dimensions to the minimum allowed by regulations—or even below—exacerbating parking difficulties.
