Xiaomi Auto announced that its project titled "AI-Enabled Development of High-Strength Die-Cast Aluminum-Silicon Alloy and Its Large-Scale Application in New Energy Vehicles" has been awarded the First Prize of the Nonferrous Metals Industry Science and Technology Award. This advanced material has already been applied in the housings of the Super Motor V8s EVO and V8s. Compared with conventional aluminum alloys used for electric drive housings, this new alloy achieves approximately 40% higher yield strength, 17% higher tensile strength, 27% higher hardness, and double the corrosion resistance—without requiring heat treatment—while reducing the weight of the electric drive housing by about 10%. The next-generation Super Motor V8s EVO, which incorporates this material, is a comprehensive upgrade over the V8s, reaching a maximum speed of 28,000 rpm. It features a self-developed silicon carbide power module (delivering a 5.9% increase in power output) and ultra-thin 0.15 mm stator and rotor electrical steel laminations, achieving an efficiency of 98.38%. The award was jointly presented by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and the Chinese Society for Metals.
