On the morning of May 13, 2026, the preparatory meeting for the “China Heart” Annual Top 10 Commercial Vehicle Powertrain Awards was held at Chengdu Motor Vehicle Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. in Longquanyi District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, officially launching the selection process. The meeting was organized by Automobile & Sport Magazine and marked the first public announcement of the Expert Jury Committee. Xing Min, Director of the Expert Committee of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, was appointed Chair of the Jury Committee, with Professor Yao Mingfa of Tianjin University (Chair Professor) and Professor Ge Yunshan of Beijing Institute of Technology serving as Vice Chairs. The committee also includes over ten experts from institutions such as Hunan University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Jilin University, China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, and Chengdu Motor Vehicle Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. The preparatory meeting focused on discussing and establishing the award’s evaluation criteria and assessment framework. Emphasizing the role of commercial vehicles as productive assets, the selection prioritizes technological advancement, innovation, suitability for commercial applications, and key performance indicators including energy efficiency, reliability, safety, and total cost of ownership over the vehicle’s lifecycle. The goal is to build a scientific, fair, and forward-looking evaluation system. Experts at the meeting noted that China’s commercial vehicle powertrain technologies are undergoing diversified development: in the blue-plate light-duty truck segment, electric, natural gas, and diesel models are all experiencing concurrent growth; new-energy penetration in buses has already exceeded 60%; battery-swapping has become the dominant model for new-energy heavy-duty trucks; and hydrogen-fueled commercial vehicles are being piloted in specific closed-loop scenarios. Starting in 2025, the industry is transitioning from policy-driven growth to market-led development. The organizers stated that the award aims to advance commercial vehicle powertrain technologies, foster industry collaboration, help users identify efficient, reliable, low-carbon, and intelligent powertrain solutions to reduce operating costs, and support the growth of Chinese commercial vehicle powertrain brands.
