As of May 26, 2024, NIO has built a total of 8,903 charging and battery swap stations, including 5,037 charging stations and 3,866 battery swap stations. At the NIO ES9 launch event held on May 27, Li Bin, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, stated that since the company’s inception eleven years ago, it has invested over RMB 68.8 billion in research and development, with more than RMB 20 billion dedicated specifically to charging and battery swapping infrastructure. The company plans to begin deploying its fifth-generation battery swap stations in the third quarter of 2024. These next-generation stations will be compatible with vehicles from three brands—NIO, Onvo, and Firefly—and will support Firefly model users. Earlier this year, in January, Li Bin set a target to build at least 1,000 fifth-generation battery swap stations by 2026.
