BMW Brilliance Automotive’s Shenyang production base recently celebrated the rollout of its 7 millionth vehicle—a special Year of the Horse edition BMW 3 Series. Since the first locally produced BMW rolled off the line in Shenyang in 2003, the plant has reached this production milestone in just 23 years. Oliver Zipse, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, stated that with the Neue Klasse (New Generation) models set to enter localized mass production in China in 2026, BMW is embarking on a new chapter of its development in the Chinese market. To support localized production of the Neue Klasse vehicles, BMW’s Shenyang production base is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade of its manufacturing systems, digital infrastructure, and supply chain collaboration capabilities. In 2025, the first batch of domestically produced Neue Klasse test vehicles will roll off the Shenyang assembly line and begin full-scale testing. By 2027, BMW plans to launch more than 40 new models. In April 2024, BMW announced an additional investment of RMB 20 billion into its Shenyang production base, primarily earmarked for a large-scale upgrade and technological innovation at the Dadong Plant, laying the groundwork for localized production of Neue Klasse models starting in 2026.
