General Motors has opened a new design studio in Pasadena, California, unveiling the GMC Hummer X concept—a dual-variant vehicle offered as both a pickup and an SUV. Defined as a "highly reconfigurable midsize all-electric vehicle," the Hummer X is intended as a testbed to explore new technologies, design languages, and community-building around outdoor adventure, with sustainability at the core of all initiatives. GM explicitly stated that the Hummer X has no plans for production. Exterior-wise, the Hummer X carries forward the design language of the production Hummer EV, featuring a flat roofline, narrow windows, boxy proportions, and full-width LED headlights. The SUV variant has a shorter wheelbase and overall length, fitted with 37-inch off-road tires, offering 334 mm (13.1 inches) of ground clearance, along with approach and departure angles of 44 and 46 degrees, respectively. The pickup version, due to its larger dimensions, features slightly more moderate off-road specs but remains capable for rock crawling, trail riding, and high-speed cruising. The vehicle is equipped with beadlock-capable wheels, bespoke dampers, removable fender flares, and heavy-duty underbody protection to enhance off-road performance. Inside, instead of a single integrated screen, the cabin features seven independent displays that can be “stacked” or detached as needed. These screens can display real-time terrain imagery relayed from a reconnaissance drone that launches from a body-mounted rack, aiding navigation through complex terrain. GM has not disclosed the Hummer X’s range or powertrain specifications. For reference, the production Hummer EV is powered by a 212 kWh battery pack, weighs approximately 4,071 kg (8,975 lbs), and delivers an estimated CLTC range of about 528 kilometers (328 miles).
