China and Canada have made substantive adjustments to their trade relations. China has reduced the import tariff on canola seeds from approximately 84% to around 15%, while Canada has lowered its import tariff on electric vehicles from 100% to 6.1% and established an initial import quota of 49,000 units—less than 3% of Canada’s total national vehicle registrations. This adjustment marks progress in addressing key trade and economic concerns for both sides. Additionally, China’s Foreign Minister has visited Ottawa for the first time in a decade, continuing high-level bilateral engagement following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to China in 2017.
