On June 6, FAW Hongqi announced that its first rugged off-road SUV has been officially named the "Hongqi G919." The model made its debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, featuring a boxy "square-box" design with rectangular headlights, a bull bar, recovery points, tow hooks, a roof platform, spotlights, a rear-mounted spare wheel carrier (nicknamed the "little backpack"), and all-terrain (AT) tires. The roof integrates a LiDAR unit, indicating support for advanced driver-assistance features. Regarding the naming convention, the "G" signifies its positioning as a "national car," the "9" underscores its flagship status and comprehensive service offerings, and the "1" highlights its superior performance. Powering the vehicle is a range-extended hybrid system combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with four electric motors, delivering a combined output of 620 kW (approximately 843 horsepower) and a peak torque of 1,320 N·m. It is paired with a 63 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a CLTC-rated all-electric range of 280 kilometers.
