Before June 8, Qi Shilong, Executive Vice President of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., led a four-member delegation to visit Baolong Technology’s European manufacturing center in Hungary. The two parties held preliminary discussions on the feasibility of supplying products—including TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems), sensors, busbars, and air suspension systems—produced at Baolong’s European facility to Chery’s European plants. They also explored topics such as capacity expansion plans and regulatory compliance at Baolong’s European manufacturing center. This dialogue builds upon the strong cooperative foundation already established between the two companies in China and aims to accelerate localized collaboration in Europe. Meanwhile, Chery is engaged in in-depth negotiations with Nissan Motor regarding cooperation at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK. The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU), under which Chery’s UK subsidiary would take over one of the plant’s two production lines. According to Nissan, if the partnership progresses smoothly, Chery will begin production at the facility starting in the fiscal year beginning April 2027, primarily manufacturing right-hand-drive vehicles tailored for the UK market. Specific models have not yet been disclosed. Chery entered the UK market in 2024 through its Jaecoo and Omoda brands, rapidly gaining market share. Data shows that in the first four months of 2026, Chery captured a 6% share of the UK passenger car market, surpassing Ford, Toyota, and Nissan. Notably, the Jaecoo X7 became the UK’s best-selling passenger car in March 2026. In addition, Chery and Nissan have already launched production collaborations in other regions: Chery has taken over Nissan’s former plant in Barcelona, Spain, and resumed production of Ebro-branded vehicles via knock-down kit assembly. In January 2025, Chery also confirmed the acquisition of Nissan’s整车 assembly plant in Rosslyn, South Africa.
