The Beijing Off-Road BJ81 rugged SUV has a pre-sale price range of RMB 200,000 to 250,000 and is scheduled for its official market launch in Nanchang on August 1. The model appeared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) 408th batch of automobile product announcements on June 11. It made its debut earlier at BAIC Group’s Innovation Product Showcase on April 20 and was fully exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show. The BJ81 retains Beijing Off-Road’s iconic “boxy” design, measuring 4,850 mm long, 2,050 mm wide, and 1,975 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, and features a six-seat layout. The newly introduced BJ81 VJ Sport variant comes equipped with sporty enhancements such as shark-gill vents, blacked-out 22-inch alloy wheels, and wide tires sized 305/45. Under the hood, the BJ81 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged range-extended system (model code A156T2H) produced by BAIC Powertrain, delivering a maximum output of 138 kW. It pairs with a nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary lithium battery supplied by CATL and supports external charging. According to MIIT filings, the vehicle offers optional upgrades including different caliper designs, tow hooks, and electrically connected towing devices to meet off-road towing requirements. Built upon military-grade vehicle technology, the BJ81 is positioned as an entry-level rugged new-energy SUV in the RMB 200,000 price segment.
