Lei Jun Stresses ADAS Is Only an Aid—Drivers Must Retain Final Control

At 9 a.m. on June 13, Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, participated in a live-streamed public test of the Xiaomi YU7 at an automotive testing facility in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. The test covered eight key aspects: high-speed circuit testing, repeated emergency braking, comprehensive chassis performance over varied road conditions, handling dynamics, off-road recovery capability, cabin quietness, durability, and advanced driver-assistance functions—evaluating core dimensions including powertrain, handling, chassis, safety, and comfort. Both the standard YU7 and the YU7 GT variants were tested. The live stream lasted over seven hours, with Lei Jun present throughout, demonstrating the vehicles’ performance under extreme conditions. During the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) test segment, Lei Jun emphasized that regardless of how capable intelligent driving assistance systems become, their role remains strictly auxiliary. He stressed that drivers must always retain ultimate control and decision-making authority over the vehicle and should never fully relinquish control to the system. Lei noted that all YU7 models come equipped with identical, fully loaded ADAS hardware configurations. The demonstration used the standard YU7 variant, confirming that base-level capabilities are consistent across all trims, with no hardware differences. This forward-looking hardware setup is already prepared to support continuous feature enhancements delivered via over-the-air (OTA) updates. Additionally, Lei mentioned that Xiaomi’s intelligent parking feature has undergone extensive real-world validation over the past two years, receiving positive user feedback. Moving forward, all YU7 owners will receive immediate access to every new ADAS feature update as soon as it becomes available.
