Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s FREELANDER brand has released official images of the limited-edition launch version of the Freelander 8, a premium new-energy off-road SUV scheduled to debut in the second half of 2026. The launch edition features an exclusive Satin Silver finish with a matte effect, enhanced by a nano-ceramic clear coat. Its design language draws inspiration from the Concept 97 concept car, emphasizing bold proportions and clean body lines that blend luxury with rugged off-road capability. The Freelander 8 will be offered in two length variants, measuring 5,118/2,050/1,898 mm and 5,185/2,050/1,898 mm (L/W/H) respectively, both sharing a 3,040 mm wheelbase. It adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout and offers an optional towing package rated for a maximum trailer weight of 2,000 kg. In terms of intelligent cabin technology, the Freelander 8 was co-developed by FREELANDER with Huawei, CATL, and Qualcomm. All trims are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SA8397 automotive-grade chip, delivering approximately triple the CPU and GPU performance and a 12-fold increase in NPU computing power compared to the previous-generation SA8295 platform. The vehicle comes standard with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4.1 intelligent driving system, which supports future over-the-air upgrades and includes an 896-line LiDAR sensor. Powering the Freelander 8 is a range-extended hybrid system featuring a 60.331 kWh battery pack, offering a pure-electric range of 221 km. The range extender is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing a maximum output of 115 kW. Off-road capabilities are enhanced by an i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, a front mechanical differential lock, a rear e-LSD electronic limited-slip differential, a virtual center differential lock, and a closed-loop dual-chamber air suspension system. According to prior filings, the Freelander 8 will be available in multiple trim levels, including Pro, Max, and Max+.
