In May 2026, none of the top ten best-selling passenger car models in the Chinese market were fuel-powered vehicles. From January to April 2026, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles had appeared on the monthly sales rankings, though their numbers declined steadily each month. Electric vehicle (EV) models that entered the top ten, such as Geely Galaxy Starship and Tesla Model Y, demonstrated relatively stable performance. In terms of cumulative sales and monthly market share, some EVs maintained consistent sales, while others secured a spot on the list through concentrated deliveries in a single month. China’s passenger car market has shifted from a landscape dominated by a few blockbuster models and oligopolistic players toward a more diversified and flattened competitive environment. The annual top-ten best-selling models remain a key market indicator. Industry forecasts suggest that at least two fuel-powered vehicles will still make it into the full-year top ten for 2026.
