The 2026 International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong) opened on June 18 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong under the theme “Electrified Mobility, Global Reach via Hong Kong.” During the event, You Zheng, Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Group, unveiled the company’s “Horizon Sails” global strategy, announcing plans to launch 55 overseas-exclusive vehicle models over the next five years. The strategy will leverage Hong Kong as a strategic hub to accelerate right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicle development, targeting countries and regions with RHD traffic systems worldwide. Debuting at the expo as the first global flagship model under this strategy is the Yijing X9. Co-developed natively from the ground up by Dongfeng and Huawei’s Qiankun full-stack technology, the Yijing X9 is positioned as a premium six-seater SUV, measuring 5,301 mm in length, 2,015 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height (rear-wheel-drive version) or 1,805 mm (all-wheel-drive version), with a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. All variants are equipped with a plug-in extended-range hybrid powertrain and a 51.46 kWh battery pack, delivering pure electric ranges of 217 km and 229 km, respectively. The initial batch of Yijing X9 vehicles features Huawei’s next-generation Qiankun Intelligent Driving System, HarmonyOS Cockpit 6, an 896-line dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR, and the Chitu platform powered by Huawei’s XMC Qiankun Digital Chassis Engine. It also integrates Huawei’s “Triad of Vehicle Lighting Solutions”: HUAWEI XPIXEL million-pixel intelligent projection headlights, HUAWEI XSCENE in-car laser projector, and HUAWEI XHUD augmented reality head-up display. For safety, the vehicle employs an ultra-high-strength steel body structure rated at 2,400 MPa and is equipped with Huawei’s six-dimensional Collision Avoidance System (CAS) 5.0. Ji Gang, Global Passenger Vehicle Product Director at Dongfeng Import & Export Corporation, revealed that development of a dedicated RHD version of the Yijing X9 is already underway, tailored for markets including Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia. This variant will feature an ergonomically optimized RHD cockpit, a multilingual intelligent interaction system, and a localized mobility service ecosystem. The Yijing X9 completed its prototype rollout in early June 2024 and is scheduled to make its public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in September, followed by nationwide deliveries.
