On June 20, BYD officially opened its Xi’an R&D Base to the public as an industrial tourism destination, marking the launch of a dual-base collaboration between Xi’an and Shenzhen for its industrial tourism initiative. Leveraging BYD’s 30 years of industrial expertise, the project showcases the journey of China's automotive electrification—from its humble beginnings to present-day achievements—through a comprehensive exhibition hall, complemented by immersive, real-world demonstrations of cutting-edge intelligent manufacturing technologies to promote public understanding of industrial innovation. Located at No. 95 Jinye 2nd Road, Chang’an District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, the Xi’an base was where the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the F3DM, was developed in 2008. Launched in 2010, the F3DM featured BYD’s proprietary DM dual-mode hybrid powertrain. In May 2024, a commemorative plaque titled “Birthplace of the World’s First Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle” was unveiled at the Xi’an facility. Both bases now offer educational programs tailored for primary and secondary school students nationwide, covering topics such as the history of Chinese automotive brands, core new energy technologies, and vehicle manufacturing processes—effectively tracing BYD’s three-decade trajectory of technological innovation. Visits must be arranged in groups of 30 or more, with reservations submitted at least 15 days in advance. The tour package includes guided visits to exhibition halls, technology demonstrations, vehicle experience sessions, and meal services. The Shenzhen Pingshan headquarters is located at No. 3009 BYD Road, Pingshan District, Shenzhen (open only on weekends). The BYD Heritage Museum is situated at Building 7, Deqing Industrial Park, No. 76 Tongqing Road, Longgang District, Shenzhen. The Xi’an base address is No. 95 Jinye 2nd Road, Chang’an District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.
