On June 23, Xiaomi Auto released a documentary revealing that its internally codenamed project "MARS" (Mi Autonomous Racing System) successfully completed an autonomous driving lap challenge at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, achieving a time of 10 minutes, 29.483 seconds. The vehicle used for this challenge was the Xiaomi YU7 GT, and this result has been recognized as the world’s first autonomous lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Following the achievement, the Nürburgring Nordschleife officially added a new “Autonomous Driving” category to its lap time leaderboard. Xiaomi stated that it chose this extreme track to rigorously test and refine its dynamic control models, high-frequency torque distribution, and millisecond-level vehicle intervention capabilities, with plans to gradually integrate these technologies into its mass-produced vehicles. The ultimate goal is to enable the vehicle’s chassis and intelligent driving system to work in concert—delivering emergency control akin to that of a professional racing driver—to restore stability when users encounter extreme conditions such as heavy rain flooding or icy, slippery roads. On-site engineer Claus described the performance as “like flying to Mars,” calling it the starting point for exploring new frontiers in autonomous driving technology.
