On June 4, 2024, Vodafone Business and Geely Technology Europe (GTEU), the European R&D arm of Geely Auto Group, announced a deepened strategic partnership, expanding their collaboration to include in-vehicle connectivity, private mobile networks, and cloud connectivity solutions. Leveraging its IoT connectivity technology, Vodafone Business enables features such as remote vehicle diagnostics and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, while ensuring secure data transmission between vehicles and cloud systems through its cloud connectivity services. Currently, Vodafone’s in-vehicle connectivity services provide compliant and stable network connections across more than 30 countries, supporting in-car infotainment systems and a wide range of digital services. This capability allows Geely to monitor vehicle performance in real time and continuously enhance the user experience. Additionally, Vodafone delivers secure and reliable network connectivity to GTEU’s R&D operations in Germany and Sweden, as well as its pan-European sales teams. Geely Technology Europe focuses on developing vehicle architectures, digital platforms, and intelligent systems, offering integrated in-vehicle connectivity and digital services such as smart EV charging planning and 3D lane-level navigation. These features rely on the continuous integration of the latest software, data, and connectivity services. The partnership enables vehicles to receive iterative upgrades even after delivery, based on user feedback. For example, with Zeekr’s navigation system, users can provide real-time in-car feedback on their experience, thanks to Vodafone’s always-on, stable connectivity—enabling R&D teams to quickly identify issues and deploy optimized updates. Vodafone Business offers customized solutions that meet international standards for cybersecurity, data protection, and regulatory compliance. By combining its global IoT connectivity management platform—which supports over 240 million connections—with local operator resources, Vodafone helps Geely rapidly scale its operations across the European market. It is projected that by 2030, more than 98% of newly sold passenger vehicles globally will be connected. Vodafone Business and Geely Technology Europe plan to jointly advance the development of the intelligent connected vehicle industry.
